Pearl Oral Care System
Natural Dental Solutions (NDS) is a highly successful and reputed dental services and products firm based in Kentucky, founded by serial inventor, Dr Christian Hahn. Dr Hahn has several oral care related inventions under his belt – some of which have been licensed to other manufacturers and some are available through his dental practice. He has patented a solid tablet like toothpaste made from natural ingredients. This is his first foray into consumer products. More on Dr Hahn and NDS here.
The team comprised of an industrial designer, a mechanical engineer and the manufacturer to help design the mechanical functionality as well as the brand direction for the product. The brief for this project was to explore various sustainable options while making the transition to this new system extremely painless and design a modern, desirable product.
Our role in this project involved extensive patent search to avoid any IP infringement as well as create new IP for the enterprise that can be licensed or manufactured directly. Due to our past manufacturing experience, we were in a position to add business value to the project beyond the design aspects such as keeping number of moving parts to the minimum, exploring multi-material and external coating options. Aluminum was chosen as the material for the product based on Rupa’s recommendation and the manufacturer helped us arrive at cost effective mechanisms of creating a multi-part, complex yet manufacturable design.
